WEEKLY MOVIE REVIEW

by : SALIS AFAQUE

Interstellar - 4 stars
Interstellar is a 2014 science-fiction adventure film directed by Christopher Nolan. Starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Michael Caine, the film features a team of space travelers who travel through a wormhole in search of a new habitable planet. It was written by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan; Christopher combined his idea with a script developed by his brother in 2007 for Paramount Pictures and producer Lynda Obst. He produced the film with Obst and his wife, Emma Thomas. Theoretical physicist Kip Thorne, whose work inspired the film, acted as both scientific consultant and executive producer.  It is an entertaining, emotional and thought-provoking sci-fi saga, even if it can also be clunky and sentimental at times. One of the best Sci-Fi films of 2014. Must watch.

Big Hero 6 - 4 stars
Big Hero 6 is a 2014 American 3D computer-animated science fiction superhero-comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Inspired by the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name, the film is directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, and is the 54th animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series. Big Hero 6 is the first Disney animated film to feature Marvel Comics characters, whose parent company was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 2009. It attempts to breathe cinematic life into a group of lesser known Marvel characters and definitely succeds in doing so.  Sweet animation movie. Must watch.

 A Decent Arrangement - 2.5 stars
A Decent Arrangement is the story of Ashok Khosla (Adam Laupus), an Indian-American copywriter who journeys to India seeking an arranged marriage. After he encounters an American woman travelling through India and is set up with an Indian woman who unexpectedly captivates him, Ashok must navigate the complexity of cultural traditions and the leanings of his own heart. With subtle comedy and true-to-life drama, A Decent Arrangement shows us a side of India not commonly seen by western audiences and delivers an affecting story that resonates with those of us in search of our place in a changing world. You will like it.

The Shaukeens
- 2 stars
The Shaukeens is an Hindi comedy film directed by Abhishek Sharma. The film features Annu Kapoor, Piyush Mishra and Anupam Kher in lead roles alongside Lisa Haydon, while Akshay Kumar features in a cameo playing himself. The project is a remake of the 1982 film Shaukeen directed by Basu Chatterjee, starring Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt, A. K. Hangal, Rati Agnihotri and Mithun Chakraborty. Partly shot in Mauritius. Akshay Kumar almost made fun of himself in the movie. Watch it once for some little laugh's or else dont even watch it.

APPLE iPHONE 6 Review

by SALIS AFAQUE

The new iPHONE has an all new design, with a body that sports rounded corners and edges. Now also for the first time you can pick up an iPHONE in two sizes. The smaller device sports a 4.7 inch screen, while the Plus comes with a 5.5 inch display.

LOOKS :
iPHONE 6 is the sexiest phone launched by Apple. Unlike flat edges and sharp angles, iPHONE 6 is smooth and slick, with a lovely dark glass front that looks like a pool of ink. This is a very satisfying phone to hold and use. The weight and balance are also just right.

SPECIFICATIONS :
The iPHONE 6 uses Apple's new A8 processor. There is 1 GB RAM which seems stingy compared to Android devices today. The non-expandable 16GB onboard storage is not enough. If you're into recording Full HD movies, you will find yourself running out of space soon. The relatively new high-speed Wi-Fi ac standard is supported, as is Bluetooth 4.0. LTE is supported on the Indian 2300MHz band and NFC is new to this iPhone generation, but only works with Apple Pay which isn't available outside the USA yet.

SOFTWARE :
iOS 8 has lots of new features, big and small.  You get an improved image editor, with which you can crop, rotate and apply photo-filters to your pictures. iPHONE 6 now has an improved keyboard. Custom keyboards will be a game-changer for Apple, and some truly innovative apps have sprung up letting you do all kinds of things with messages. Improvements to mail handling and iTunes content management area also much appreciated. One of the most visible new iOS 8 features is the Health app. You can use your iPHONE 6 to save your medical history, kept secure with your fingerprints. Health App records your physical activity on a daily basis - number of steps, distance covered, levels of staircases climbed and more.

CAMERA :
The iPHONE camera’s are fast and take sharp shots. The rear camera is still 8 megapixels, but the lens and sensor have been improved to allow for better low-light shots and colour accuracy. Now they can also be used to make time-lapse and slow-mo video’s. Colours appear natural and snapshots display good detail.

VERDICT :
The new Apple iPHONE is perfect when it comes to quality mobile apps, multimedia support and processing power of high-definition content. It is worth buying. BEST iPHONE EVER !

IN THE STORES :
Flipkart.com – Rs. 53,500
Amazon.in – Rs. 53,500
Snapdeal.com (16GB) – Rs. 53,500
Snapdeal.com (64GB) – Rs. 61,900

INDIAN MUSIC : Then Now Forever

by  SHAFAQUE EQBAL

Music is one of the most beloved human experience . Everyone enjoys some sort of music and that is evident in almost every important event from weddings and funerals to graduation ceremonies and presidential inaugurations. Yes, music is everywhere. There are many different styles or genres, of music. Some of the most familiar are classical, jazz, blues, rock and roll, rhythm and blues, rap, hip hop, country, blue grass, folk, house, new age, world and metal, but the overall list goes on and on. Music to me is an outburst of soul. It is the highlight of my day, it is important in my life because I always have something to sing along and to relate to. Today, India is open to new cultures to an extent one could not even imagine, a few decades ago.
The younger lot is bringing new ideas. This is the best phase of Indian music as a lot of musicians are coming up with new kind of music, giving musicians more space to create something different. Bollywood movies with beautiful romantic songs make buzz these days. Singers like Honey Singh, Arijit Singh , AR Rehman etc are making headlines. Indian music has rare depth, dignity and above all a beauty of mood and expression. Classical song’s and Ghazal’s are much closer to everyday life. It evokes the kind of peace one feels when one is happy at home, with family, in the company of
friends, watching a beautiful sunset or doing something one enjoys. Ghazals and old songs have soothing effect on emotions. Some of my all-time favourite include ‘ ABHI NA JAO CHHODH KAR ‘ by Rafi and Aasha Bhosle, ‘ HAR EK BAAT PE KEHTE HO TUM ‘ by Lata , ‘ TUM JO ITNA MUSKURA RAHE HO ‘, ‘ JHUKI SI NAZAR BEKARAR ’, ‘ HOTHON SE CHOO LO
TUM ‘ by Jagjit Singh, a musical pioneer as well as the Ghazal Mastero also known as the Ghazal King of all time. I think the future of Indian music is to be really outstanding. Categories such as pop, bhangra, hip hop and other latin flavours by blending them. I think they can create a very immense tone of sound. The blend of East and West is the future of the Indian music industry because people want to listen to something different. They are enjoying such amalgamation because they are listening to world music and are well aware of the different genres. Even though, I prefer old music. I believe that India is progressing towards a bright future regarding music. I close by thanking Salis Afaque for motivating me to write this article.
